HUMANITIES – (1/24/2025) The Arabic Language and Literature Study Program (BSA) of the Faculty of Humanities, UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang held coordination with lecturers to formulate the best pattern in accompanying students’ thesis journey, Thursday, January 23, 2025 in the 2nd floor meeting room of the Faculty of Humanities. This activity was held to optimize the quality of student research while strengthening the academic contribution of lecturers through scientific publications.

Head of the Arabic Language and Literature Study Program, Dr. Abdul Basid, said that this meeting was a strategic step to ensure that students receive comprehensive and in-depth guidance. “As lecturers, we have a responsibility to not only guide students, but also to continue to produce scientific publications that are relevant to the courses we teach. This will provide important references for students while creating new discourses in the field of Arabic language and literature,” said Dr. Abdul Basid.
In the discussion session, the lecturers discussed themes that were considered relevant to the latest developments in the field of Arabic language and literature. It was emphasized that any theme can be used as a thesis research topic, as long as it is packaged with an interesting approach and offers novelty. The lecturers also agreed on the importance of integrating various disciplines to broaden students’ research perspectives.
“An interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary approach not only enriches students’ insights, but also opens up research opportunities to make real contributions to the development of science,” said Misbahus Surur, one of the lecturers present.
In addition to discussing research themes, this meeting also highlighted the implementation of proposal and thesis guidance. The lecturers agreed to implement a more structured guidance pattern, including setting clear targets and schedules for each stage of thesis completion. This is expected to help students complete their research more effectively and efficiently.
“The quality of student research is highly dependent on the guidance they receive. Therefore, we need to ensure that every guidance process runs well and provides added value for students,” added Dr. Abdul Basid.
One of the main agendas in this meeting was the discussion of the thesis exam assessment criteria. The lecturers detailed several aspects of the assessment, including research substance, methodology, language use, writing quality, and student presentation skills. This detailed and transparent assessment is expected to encourage students to produce high-quality scientific work.
Dr. Abdul Basid emphasized the importance of clear assessment criteria as a reference for both examiners and students. “With detailed assessment standards, we can ensure that the research produced not only has academic value, but also practical relevance in the field of Arabic language and literature,” he said.
Closing the meeting, Dr. Abdul Basid reflected on the importance of the role of lecturers in creating a conducive research climate. “We hope that through this meeting, lecturers can be more motivated to continue to innovate in academic guidance and scientific publications. This will not only improve the quality of student research, but also strengthen the reputation of the Arabic Language and Literature Study Program at the national and international levels,” he concluded.
This meeting is expected to be an important momentum to build synergy between lecturers and students in improving the quality of research in the Arabic Language and Literature Study Program.
